Aaron Lennon underlined his delight on Twitter last week as Leeds returned to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2004 – and Leeds fans want the free agent signed, but would he be a good addition?
A win for Huddersfield over West Brom and then Stoke beating Brentford not only saw Leeds promoted, but as champions of England’s second division. It sees Leeds end a 16-year wait since the financial collapse in 2004.
Though Leeds have a larger squad than last season, the Whites are still somewhat thin in certain positions. Certainly out wide, cover should be considered by Marcelo Bielsa – especially a recently-made free agent such as Lennon.
Lennon applauded Leeds on Twitter: “Finally!!! Back in the Prem. Congrats Leeds United, What a day for everyone associated with the club and the city. Leeds Leeds Leeds,” and plenty of Leeds supporters reacted.

But should Leeds consider signing 33-year-old Lennon, who is now without a club after his release by Burnley earlier this summer? Well, he certainly would not start over Helder Costa and Harrison – the latter is expected to re-sign.
But a 21-time England cap with 388 Premier League games throughout his career, Lennon would be an excellent addition that the likes of Harrison, Ian Poveda, Jordan Stevens and the club’s other young wide man can learn from.
Not only would he be excellent off the pitch, but Lennon can still do a job on it. In those 388 top-tier outings, Lennon has had a hand in 96 goals – scoring 34 and creating 62. A ratio of being involved in a goal every four-ish matches.
Adding Lennon to his options out wide would be a strong move. Yes, he is not the player he was at Tottenham, but Lennon can be crucial off the pitch and still provide some magic on it.
