Leeds United host Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon in the Championship – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have demanded that defender Barry Douglas gets the nod in the starting XI.

The Whites go into the weekend top of the league table on goal difference, while opponents Sheffield Wednesday sit eighth just two points adrift of the play-offs.

It’s a crucial Yorkshire derby at Elland Road and the teams played out a 0-0 stalemate in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa has some important decisions to make with his team, especially in the left-back position.

Douglas caught the eye in the weekend’s 1-0 FA Cup third round defeat to Arsenal, as well as coming off the bench to impress in the previous league fixture against second-placed West Brom.

The 30-year-old has impressed of late in the left wing-back role and has hit form in the early stages of 2020.

But teammate Ezgjan Alioski has had the edge in the battle for the full-back position generally over the past couple of months.

A selection of Leeds supporters on social media believe that in-form Scotsman Douglas deserves his spot in the team on Saturday.
