Leeds United suffered a poor defeat to Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon as Macauley Bonne’s goal secured all three points for Lee Bowyer’s side – and Whites fans reckon Patrick Bamford got lucky to escape a red card.
Bonne netted in the first half, while Charlton’s rearguard kept Leeds at bay. Leeds had plenty of chances to find the back of the net but once again for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, they failed to convert multiple chances into goals.
It saw the Whites slip down the table into fourth position after starting the weekend in first place. Nottingham Forest beat Stoke City on Friday night at the Britannia to third, Swansea drew with Reading and West Brom are top after a win over QPR.

The match against Charlton was not one without incident. Patrick Bamford started the match ahead of Eddie Nketiah after much debate once again and the former Middlesbrough striker was frustrated throughout, as he looks to add to his goal tally.
The 26-year-old let his frustration get the better of him, and took it out on the impressive Charlton midfielder Conor Gallagher who has starred for the Addicks since joining on loan from Chelsea. The 19-year-old has already scored three goals.
Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to Bamford’s tackle, which was very late and rash and saw Charlton defender Tom Lockyer sprint towards the striker and push him in the chest. Many Leeds supporters believe Bamford was lucky to only get a yellow card.
