Leeds United have been linked with another bizarre move to sign an Italian legend this week, and this time it is retired AS Roma legend Francesco Totti – to the utter bewilderment of the Leeds fanbase.
Totti, now 42 years of age, retired at the end of the 2016-17 campaign – finishing his career as a one-club man with AS Roma. Indeed, 785 appearances for the Italian giants, scoring a huge 307 goals and 129 assists.
The 59-time Italy international has spent two years out of the game as a player, and has since taken on managerial roles and club director roles. Now, he has ended a 30-year association with the club.
His former Roma teammate Marco Borriello has delivered some bizarre news, though, that links to Totti to Leeds. Indeed, Borriello is quoted by Goal as saying that Leeds could be looking to bring Totti out of retirement.

“Totti was contacted in Ibiza by a big manager of an English club to return to the field,” Borriello said. “It’s a Championship team. Leeds? I don’t know.”
Just last week, Leeds were linked with a shocking move to sign Gianluigi Buffon after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain had expired. Now, they are linked with an even more bizarre deal for Totti.
The chances of Totti, who turns 43 in September, coming out of retirement are surely unlikely. But the fact that Borriello knows about the offer is somewhat intriguing. Leeds fans are stunned on Twitter.
