Leeds United posted a very cheeky Tweet of Kalvin Phillips on their official account just 20 minutes after the transfer deadline shut on Thursday – and Leeds fans feel the post could be a hint.
Phillips, 23, has been linked with a big-money move away from Elland Road for the entire summer. A Leeds favourite after coming through the academy, fans have been desperate for him to remain at Leeds.
Indeed, the midfielder has most strongly been linked with a move to Aston Villa. But Dean Smith’s side never reached the asking price set by Marcelo Bielsa’s side – which was in the region of £30million.
Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur and other clubs have been loosely linked with Phillips. But he has remained, and Leeds took to Twitter to cheekily celebrate the fact that Phillips will remain until at least, January.
Bielsa reinvented Phillips last season. Playing as a number 10 under Thomas Christiansen, Bielsa chose to play him at the base of the midfield and it has worked wonders. He is arguably Leeds’ most important player.
Leeds fans reacted to the club’s tongue-in-cheek post on Twitter, and many reckon the club are set to hand the excellent midfielder a new contract – with the Tweet supposedly hinting at a new deal for Phillips.
