Leeds fans reckon Marcelo Bielsa was the reason for Eddie Nketiah’s Arsenal goal

Eddie Nketiah continued his excellent form in an Arsenal shirt on Thursday evening as he netted in the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Southampton – and many Leeds fans think Marcelo Bielsa was the reason behind his strike.

Nketiah, 21, scored five goals in 19 games on loan at Leeds during the first half of the season – only four of which came as starts. He returned to Arsenal in January early, and has since thrived under Mikel Arteta.

The England Under-21 international has netted four goals in 10 appearances since returning to north London, netting his seventh career goal for Arsenal on Thursday night as he opened the deadlock against Southampton.

Nketiah combined his explosive pace and work rate to close down Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who lazily passed the ball out only to be blocked by Nketiah – who raced through and tapped home.

The Gunners picked up their first points since the restart after losses to Manchester City and Brighton, with midfielder Joe Willock also getting his name on the score sheet.

Many Leeds fans responded to Nketiah’s goal with the belief that Bielsa’s style of high press and incessant work rate helped Nketiah notch his fourth Arsenal strike of the season – something he would not have done, had he not played for Leeds on loan.
