Ryan Edmondson made his debut for England at international level on Thursday afternoon – and some Leeds United fans on Twitter praised their youngster after he enjoyed a winning start.
The Whites striker started in a 3-1 victory over Greece for England’s Under-19s side and he even got himself on the scoresheet.
He tapped in a rebound for the Young Lions to give them a 2-1 lead at the time and impressed for Paul Simpson’s team.
Norwich City’s Daniel Adshead scored an equalising goal for England, while Manchester City’s Thomas Doyle also scored for the hosts at St George’s Park.
Edmondson was drafted into the England set-up for the first time during this international break and made a dream start with his goal on Thursday.
The 18-year-old has come out of the Leeds academy and made two first-team appearances so far, with both of them coming off the bench in Championship games at Elland Road.
He’s a physical striker that has impressed at Under-23s level for Leeds, but he currently has Eddie Nketiah and Patrick Bamford blocking his path into Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.
A selection of Leeds supporters on social media hailed Edmondson after his international heroics and some feel he’s a major talent that needs some senior opportunities, whether that be at Elland Road or out on loan.
Here are some Leeds fans reacting to Edmondson’s England goal:
