Leeds fans react to Rodrigo's new role as a false nine
Leeds fans enjoyed Rodrigo as a false nine.
Leeds have not had the start to the season that they wanted.
The Whites are now six games into the season and are yet to win a Premier League game.
It’s not like Marcelo Bielsa isn’t trying to make an impact and get things right, though.
Against West Ham on the weekend Bielsa implemented a change to try and get a result.
At Elland Road on Saturday the Whites used Rodrigo in a different role to the one we’ve commonly seen him play.
The Spaniard, who has been deployed mostly in midfield under Bielsa, was used a false nine.
For the first hour of the game, this system worked nicely.
Bielsa’s side took a 1-0 lead into half-time but fell to a 2-1 defeat as West Ham turned it around in the second half.
It wasn’t the result that the fans wanted, but there were signs that a win is on the way.
Leeds fans enjoyed Rodrigo as a false nine
Bielsa will certainly be able to take positives away from seeing Rodrigo in his new role.
The fans enjoyed seeing him lead the line from the false nine position as he was able to bring others into play.
The likes of Dan James and Raphinha will be set to benefit from Rodrigo’s link play in that role.
The qualify that Leeds have in their squad is bound to start showing and the fans won’t have to wait too long for a win.
They face Watford at home this weekend in their game.
If Rodrigo can get in and amongst it and bring teammates into play there’s no reason why the Yorkshire side can’t secure a first victory of the season.
What do the fans think?
Totally agree. Thought he had a good game.— Martin McC Marching On Together (@martin1715) September 28, 2021
Brilliant first hour and then faded unfortunately. But it’s a sign of more to come – play as well he did in that first 60 he’ll keep Bamford out the team.— Felix (@FelixLUFC) September 28, 2021
Agreed. We looked mobile and dangerous with him, James and Raph. Once the latter two had been hooked, we lost intensity and shape.— Paul B (@paulbowler60) September 28, 2021
Tough selection as both he and Pat are very good options up there. Personally I’d like to see Rodrigo given a run of games up there.— Doran Darley (@Lord_Dozza80) September 28, 2021
Was very good I thought. A lot of his flicks around the corner came to nothing, but once others are more aware he’ll do it we’ll make a lot more out them.— Neil Royce (@royceylufc) September 28, 2021
Probably his best half of football for us. Some of his positioning and touches where top level and wouldn’t be appreciated unless you were there to watch him live.— (@L33ds_Un1t3d) September 28, 2021
Problem is, he needs an extended run in that position, but will he get it and can we afford to give it?
has looked very good last few games, one of the few bright spots— bielsa’s high press (@russianbot3004) September 28, 2021
