Leeds United have confirmed that defender Luke Ayling has had surgery on his ankle – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are frustrated on Twitter.
The Whites have announced on their official website a squad that will travel to Italy to play Serie A club Cagliari Calcio on Saturday evening in a pre-season game.
The club have explained that Ayling has not travelled with the squad due to his surgery and is going to be out of action “for a period”.
It’s unclear on when the 27-year-old will be in contention for selection, but he’s now missed picking up pre-season fitness and the start of the Championship is just around the corner.
Marcelo Biesla’s team kick off the league season on Sunday 4 August away to Bristol City and their squad is look slightly thin on the ground.

A selection of Leeds fans on social media are not pleased with the injury news, especially as their is now timeframe given on when he could be back.
Stuart Dallas and Gaetano Berardi are both capable of playing in the full-back role, but Ayling has shown during his time at Elland Road he can be extremely effective attacking from that position.
