Leeds fans react to Chris Wilder’s comments on Billy Sharp

A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that the Whites should bid for Billy Sharp in January after Chris Wilder seemingly opened the door for the striker to move.

Sharp played a key role in guiding Sheffield United to automatic-promotion ahead of the Whites last season. The 33-year-old scored 23 goals for the Blades. However, he has struggled for game-time since the club returned to the Premier League.

Sharp – who earns £12,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has started one league game. And Wilder admitted this week that he would not stand in the skipper’s way if he decided that he wanted to leave after receiving enquiries for the former Southampton man (via Daily Mirror).

It must be noted that Wilder went on to suggest that Sharp remains happy at Bramall Lane. Nevertheless, some Leeds fans have suggested on social media that Marcelo Bielsa’s side should offer him a move when the window opens next month.

Leeds are, once again, in a fantastic position in the Championship. They are second in the table and eight points clear of the chasing pack.

However, they have not won any of their last three. And the early stages of their 1-1 draw with Preston North End on Boxing Day was arguably as bad as the side have played this season.

Leeds clearly have the quality to go up. But you could certainly understand why some supporters feel that January is vital as this season eerily continues to mirror what happened last term.

And with question marks lingering over what the future holds for Eddie Nketiah, some Leeds fans have suggested that signing Sharp on loan could be inspired.

Of course, Sharp’s previous spell with the Whites proved to be a disappointment. But he still contributed a handful of goals. And with Leeds now in a much better place, it is not difficult to see why some believe that he could make a massive difference if he was to return.

Here is how some of the Leeds supporters reacted to Wilder’s comments…
