Alfie McCalmont made his senior international debut for Northern Ireland on Thursday night – and some Leeds United fans on Twitter praised their academy graduate for his performance.
The 19-year-old has come through the youth ranks with the Whites in recent years and has been drafted into Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad this campaign.
He’s been an unused substitute in a few Championship games so far this season, but has featured for the first-team for the first time ever in both rounds of the Carabao Cup.
The teenager is a versatile midfielder that has great confidence on the ball for someone his age and is tipped as a rising star.
McCalmont was drafted into Michael O’Neil’s Northern Ireland squad for this international break and there was a friendly fixture at home to Luxembourg on Thursday.
An own goal from Kevin Malget saw the Irish secure a win and they host Germany in a European Championship qualifier on Monday night at home.

But a selection of Leeds supporters on social media were most keen on McCalmont’s debut and believe he’s a star in the making.
The midfielder came on in the second-half at Windsor Park against Luxembourg and slotted into a deeper role in front of the backline.
He helped Northern Ireland see out the win with some comfortable moments in possession and he’s someone learning a passing game from Bielsa.
