A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Sun over the weekend claiming that the Whites are monitoring Sam Johnstone.

Johnstone has been a revelation for West Bromwich Albion this season. He has produced some outstanding displays for the Baggies.

But it appears that his future at the Hawthorns may be uncertain. According to The Sun, his contract expires at the end of next season.

The report claims that Leeds and Brighton and Hove Albion are both interested in the 27-year-old.

Leeds’s interest has come as a surprise to plenty of supporters on social media. Several have insisted that they cannot see a move for Johnstone taking place anytime soon.

Illan Meslier has been first choice since the latter stages of last season. And the Frenchman has generally been hugely impressive – particularly when you consider that he is only 20.

It would perhaps make sense if Leeds moved Kiko Casilla on at some stage. The Spaniard has been a disappointing signing. And according to Spotrac, he is on just over £32,000-a-week, which is a lot to pay for someone who does not play.

If Johnstone moved to Elland Road, there are no guarantees that he would be number one. In fact, several fans have insisted that Meslier is already a better option.

And Spotrac shows that he earns £32,500-a-week with the Baggies. So while he may be a much better understudy than Casilla, he could potentially cost even more than the 34-year-old.
