A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Sam Greenwood’s display as the under-23s beat Aston Villa on Sunday.

Greenwood was given another chance in the number eight role he had had a taste of before the youngsters’ three-week break.

He started alongside Pablo Hernandez in midfield. Hernandez showed his class before he was taken off at the break to give some of the club’s other first-team stars an opportunity.

But it appears that Greenwood may have managed to outshine the Spaniard. Leeds came from 2-0 down to beat the Villans at Thorp Arch.

The 18-year-old scored the Whites’ second from the penalty spot. It was an emphatic spot-kick from the under-23s’ top goalscorer.

And Greenwood’s performance prompted plenty of Leeds fans to insist that he has to be getting closer to a first-team debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

The teenager was outstanding up front in the early stages of the season. And he appears to be taking to the midfield role just as well. He was ambitious when in possession and was not afraid to get stuck in.

And it is clear that many supporters are hoping that it may not be too long before he gets the chance to play alongside Hernandez once again – only this time, in the first-team.

Here is how some of the Leeds fans reacted to Greenwood’s display…
