A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to laud Sam Greenwood after the youngster scored another stunning free-kick for the under-23s at the weekend.
Of course, the eyes of the Leeds supporters were on the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. But the under-23s ensured that there was even more to celebrate.
According to LUFC Youth on Twitter, Mark Jackson’s men beat York City 4-1. Jack Harrison – who was ineligible to face his parent club – scored twice. Meanwhile, Bobby Kamwa also got on the scoresheet.
But perhaps the goal of the game – even with Harrison scoring after an amazing solo run – came from Greenwood. The 19-year-old bagged an outrageous free-kick from 30 yards.
He looks to be in a fairly central position and curls the ball into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with almost no chance.
Greenwood has cemented himself as a free-kick specialist since arriving at Elland Road last summer. He has scored against the likes of Sunderland and West Brom with stunning efforts from distance.
His latest attempted prompted plenty of fans to laud the teenager on social media. They cannot wait for Greenwood to get the chance to build on his one first-team appearance so far.
It is certainly a matter of when rather than if.
With that in mind, here is what some of the fans were saying about Greenwood’s goal…
Well done #LUFC U23s on a 4-1 win against York City this afternoon!👏
