Leeds United fans may not have expected the topic of conversation going into the final day of the Championship season to be potential targets for their Premier League return rather than whether they would be able to see off the likes of West Brom and Brentford and hold onto an automatic-promotion spot.

But Marcelo Bielsa’s side have booked their ticket to English football’s top table. And attention has seemingly already turned to which players they could look to sign this summer.

Algerian outlet Le Buteur reported this week that Leeds are readying a £23.4 million bid for Brentford star Said Benrahma. Such a bid would break the club’s transfer record if accepted (via Leeds Live).

The Daily Mail have since suggested that the Whites are preparing to battle Arsenal and Chelsea for the 24-year-old.

Benrahma’s season could still end with promotion. Thomas Frank’s side need to better the Baggies’ result to finish in the top two. Otherwise, the play-offs await for the Bees.

Many will still be backing Brentford to go up whether they finish in the top two or not. But there are plenty of Leeds fans who are now hoping that the club do not manage to get across the line.

Several supporters have suggested that Benrahma would be an inspired signing for Bielsa’s side. He has scored 17 goals and contributed eight assists. Seven of his goals have come since the season’s resumption alone.

But a number of Leeds fans have suggested that their only hope of landing Benrahma involves Brentford missing out on promotion.

There is no question though that many believe that it would be a masterstroke to bring the Algerian to Elland Road if it is possible.

Here is how some of the supporters have reacted to the reports…
