Leeds United have taken one large step towards promotion with, admittedly, one of their most unconvincing performances of the season on Thursday – and one youngster’s display has been lauded by the supporters on social media.
Pascal Struijk came on during the second-half at Elland Road as Leeds looked to defend their 1-0 lead against Barnsley.
The Championship’s bottom side asked numerous questions of the Whites, particularly after the break. And that prompted Bielsa to turn to the Dutchman to play in front of the defence for the final 29 minutes.
Initially, the 20-year-old perhaps looked a little unsure of his role. But once he settled in, he looked outstanding to help Leeds see out the game.
He seemed to read the game well, and made a couple of excellent challenges and interceptions that halted Barnsley’s momentum.
Struijk also played a crucial role in what was nearly Leeds’s second goal. He played a delightful through ball to Gjanni Alioski which ultimately led to Patrick Bamford having an effort brilliantly saved.
Following the win, plenty of supporters have taken to Twitter to laud Struijk’s display.
The youngster’s most recent appearance before Thursday came in the 3-3 draw against Cardiff City in December, and some fans were not afraid to admit that they were concerned when he was introduced against the Tykes.
But many have heaped praise on the former Ajax man. Some even suggested that he was the most impressive player on show.
Here is how some of the fans reacted to Struijk’s display…

Pascal Struijk what a man, came on in a huge game with so much pressure and performed excellently. What a future he’s got ahead of him

Like many others I was questioning why Struijk was brought on, especially in that position. But he was the best Leeds player thereafter.

Apart from giving the ball away once, Struijk was absolutely sensational

What the hell have I just watched? I should be overjoyed but I still feel stressed! Thought Struijk was outstanding when he came on but he was probably the only one! #lufc
