A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to respond to James Milner as he marked 19 years to the day since he made his first-team debut for the Whites in the top flight.

Milner has been one of the most successful footballers the Premier League has seen. He possesses three title medals, having won the league twice with Manchester City and once with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, he has also lifted the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and won 61 caps for England.

The 35-year-old continues to make an impact for the Reds. And it would be little surprise to many if his career had some way to go yet.

He moved to Anfield at the age of 29. And yet, he has still managed to go on and make more than 250 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

In total, Milner has made more than 780 club appearances in all competitions.

Of course, it all started for the midfielder at Leeds.

Milner became the Premier League’s second-youngest player when he made his debut for the Whites on the 10th November 2002.

He subsequently became the then-youngest goalscorer in the competition while at Elland Road.

Unfortunately, his time at Leeds came to an end due to the club’s relegation in 2004. He ended up at Newcastle.

The dream transfer for many Leeds fans throughout those years in the wilderness of the Football League was Milner’s return.

‘Come back next season’

That desire to see him come back has diminished slightly with Leeds returning to the Premier League after Milner had celebrated his 34th birthday.

But with the former Aston Villa man continuing to prove that he can make an impact at the highest level, Milner’s latest tweet has prompted plenty of Leeds fans to suggest that they would still love to see him back next season.

There is no question that he would have the discipline and dedication to be a part of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad. His longevity has been absolutely remarkable.

And he also offers plenty of versatility. He has played in every single outfield position during his career, apart from centre-back.

For Liverpool, he has featured in both full-back roles, as well as midfield. And he has tended to provide goals and assists from almost every position.

Obviously, it is probably not a move that Leeds fans would be calling for if it was another 35-year-old who had no unfinished business at Elland Road.

But clearly, many think that returning to Leeds now that they are back in the top flight would be the perfect way to bring the curtain down on what has been an absolutely amazing career.

Not only would he be able to contribute on the pitch, but he would also be another fantastic role model for those looking to make the grade with the Yorkshire club.

His contract expires next summer, according to Transfermarkt. So there may be an opening for the Whites to consider a move. Even those who have doubts about his current ability can hardly say that it would be an awful move.
