Helder Costa went into Leeds United’s clash with West Brom with a major point to prove after a poor first Championship start for the Whites at the weekend.
The Wolves loanee seemed to offer little in the 1-0 defeat to Charlton when Leeds desperately needed someone to step up in Pablo Hernandez’s absence.

He kept his place in the side for the clash with the league leaders on Tuesday. And it is fair to say that the Elland Road faithful have a much better idea about why the club have committed to paying £15 million to sign him permanently next summer (fee reported by the Daily Mail).
Costa was outstanding as Leeds went on to win 1-0. The Portuguese gave one of the division’s brightest full-backs Nathan Ferguson a torrid evening. His pace was a threat all night, and he was linking up with Stuart Dallas superbly at times.

He did appear to tire in the latter stages of the contest. But, like many of his teammates, he dug in to help ensure that Leeds got the three points that have taken them back to the league’s summit.
Costa had some chances to score and will be disappointed that he did not bag his first league goal for Leeds during the first-half. But the improvement from the weekend was superb.
And the supporters took to social media to laud Costa’s display in the victory. There is definitely a sense that that was his best performance yet for his new club – and the fans will be hoping that there is plenty more to come from the wide-man.
