Leeds fans react on Twitter to display from Pascal Struijk vs Villarreal

A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the display from Pascal Struijk as the Whites rounded off their pre-season campaign with a draw against Villarreal on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side may have felt that they had a point to prove heading into the clash with the Europa League winners.

It has not been the best summer for the Whites on the pitch. And their lacklustre display against Ajax in midweek left many fans feeling extremely concerned.

Of course, pre-season will count for nothing if Leeds win on the opening day. But there was certainly a desire to see a much better performance on Saturday.

Thankfully, Leeds fans got exactly that. Bielsa’s men played some outstanding football as they drew with the La Liga outfit in York.

A late equaliser denied the Whites victory. But they can be extremely happy with a lot of what they did.

And Struijk seemed to be one of the standout performers. The Dutchman was superb alongside the likes of Liam Cooper and Robin Koch.

It is now easy to forget just how unexpected the 21-year-old starting on the opening day of last season was. Remarkably, that trip to Liverpool represented his first start at centre-back for Leeds.

If he starts against Manchester United next weekend, few fans will have any complaints. Many felt that he was brilliant in the 2-2 draw.

And several fans believe that he has a frightening amount of potential. Plenty are tipping him for a very good campaign.
