Leeds fans react on Twitter to Charlie Cresswell’s under-23 display

It arguably says a lot about Charlie Cresswell’s latest performance that plenty of Leeds United fans felt compelled to laud the youngster when they also got their first glimpse of Ian Poveda and Jean-Kevin Augustin in the same game.

Cresswell started at the back for the Whites’ under-23s as they took on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Monday.

It was a game that may not live long in the memory. The contest actually finished 2-2, but there seemed to be more errors than genuine moments of quality from the two sides.

Nevertheless, it was an occasion that plenty of Leeds fans would have followed closely. January signings Augustin and Poveda both featured for 45 minutes for the visitors.

So the under-23 regulars would have been forgiven for feeling that it was a real opportunity to make a statement with so many following the game.

And one of the players who appeared to make a major impression was Cresswell. The young defender was ambitious on the ball and caught the eye with a number of long-range passes.

He did not always get it right. But he certainly did enough to impress some of the supporters, with many praising the starlet on social media after the draw.

Plenty are backing Cresswell to be one of the players to break into the first-team picture in the future. They believe that he showed enough to suggest that he has the potential to make the grade at Elland Road.
