A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club confirmed on their official website that the Whites will have a side playing in the EFL Trophy next season.
Leeds’s academy was awarded Category One status earlier this year. And that has seen the Championship title-winners invited into next year’s EFL Trophy.

The club have confirmed that they have accepted the invite. And thus, fans will get to see Leeds put out a side predominantly consisting of under-21 players in the competition.
It is the first time Leeds have been involved in the tournament since 2010. On that occasion, the Whites reached the northern section final of the competition. However, they were denied a place at Wembley by Carlisle United.

Of course, that side was largely made up of Leeds first-team players. And plenty of fans seem quite excited about the prospect of a youthful side featuring 10 years on.
Leeds have a number of incredibly exciting youngsters coming through. Many have already featured for the first-team under Marcelo Bielsa.
And several supporters can only see the chance to play in the EFL Trophy as a positive for those youngsters looking to catch Bielsa’s eye.
It would be no surprise to see the likes of Joe Gelhardt, Liam McCarron and Stuart McKinstry have some involvement with the first-team next term following their promotion to the Premier League.
But the club’s participation in the EFL Trophy will provide some of those young players with a further opportunity to really impress.
