Pascal Struijk was rewarded for an outstanding substitute display in Leeds United’s win over Barnsley last week with a starting spot for the Whites’ trip to Derby County.

It is remarkable to think that the 20-year-old has now produced two superb performances in a previously-unfamiliar position.

The Dutchman has been lauded by the supporters following the 3-1 victory at Pride Park on Sunday – with many expressing their excitement for the player he could develop into.

Struijk continued to look composed on the ball, and he read the game superbly. Derby started with a number of talented attacking players in their side, and yet, Struijk helped in ensuring that they rarely got a sniff at goal.

Struijk arguably still has some way to go before he is completely filling the void that Phillips leaves. But considering the last two games have seen Struijk play in holding midfield for the first-team for the first time, the early signs suggest that Leeds have uncovered a gem.

And plenty of supporters clearly feel that Struijk has an incredibly bright future ahead. Many took to Twitter to suggest that he was one of the most impressive players on show at Pride Park.
