Leeds United fans may still be awaiting the chance to see Diego Llorente make his full debut for the Whites, but they were able to watch the centre-back in action for his country on Wednesday.

Llorente was included in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad for the first time against Manchester City at the weekend. However, the 27-year-old – who cost around £18 million this summer, according to BBC Sport – did not get on the pitch against the Cityzens.

But Llorente was handed a start for Spain’s friendly with Portugal this week. And he helped his nation keep a clean sheet in a goalless draw in Lisbon.

It was a fairly quiet first-half for Llorente. Spain were on top for much of the first 45 minutes, with Leeds teammate Rodrigo one of several players to test Rui Patricio.

But there was one notable moment for the defender before the break. He had Cristiano Ronaldo running at him as the Portugal forward cut in from the left and made a break for the box.

However, Llorente dealt with the situation superbly. He calmly swiped the ball away from Ronaldo before he could get a shot away.

It was a moment of real class from the new addition. And it did not go unnoticed by the Leeds fans on social media.

‘Absolutely pocketing Ronaldo’

It was a solid performance from Llorente overall. He looked assured on the ball and rarely seemed troubled despite coming up against one of the most prolific goalscorers in international football history.

Many Whites fans were extremely impressed with what they saw from the defender. And they now seem even more excited about what he may bring once he gets his chance at Elland Road.

Here is how some of the Leeds supporters reacted to Llorente’s display…
