Leeds United fans have been reacting to the news that Sam Greenwood has been named the PL2’s Player of the Month for September.
The talented 18-year-old only joined the club from Arsenal at the end of August, but has quickly set about dazzling for the Whites’ U23s.
The starlet, who transferred for a reported fee of £3 million including add-ons (Leeds Live), has been in inspired form since moving to West Yorkshire, scoring four goals in his first three games.
His first came against Wolves on his second outing, and he then hit a hat-trick against his former club Sunderland in the next game.
Speaking after receiving his award, Greenwood said (official website): “I’m delighted with the award, I think I’ve done well at the start of my Leeds journey and hopefully I can carry it on.
“I’m loving my time here, I’ve settled in straight away, everyone here is so nice, it’s a family club and I’ve been made to feel so welcome since day one.”
Greenwood beat Jason McAtee (Manchester City), Scott Banks (Crystal Palace), Josh Bowler (Everton), Mitchell Clark (Leicester City), Liam Millar (Liverpool) and Brooklyn Lyons-Foster (Tottenham Hotspur) to the first monthly award of the season, and will be hoping to keep up his great form.
Ultimately, the goal will be to try and score goals regularly at youth level in order to catch the eye of first-team manager Marcelo Bielsa.
He’s made a terrific start, and the striker has all the tools to make an impact for the first-team if he works hard.
Leeds fans on Twitter were delighted for Greenwood, with many showering praise on the club’s newest hot-shot:
