Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Benfica holding midfielder Florentino Luis but face competition from Manchester United and a number of other European sides – and Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter.

Luis, 20, has enjoyed an excellent breakthrough season at Benfica – even playing twice in this season’s Champions League against Lyon both home and away in the group stages.

The Portugal Under-21 international is nicknamed ‘O Polvo’, or ‘The Octopus’ as he is renowned for has ability to cover every blade of grass in the middle of the park – and his ability intercept and break up attacking play.

ESPN state that Leeds and Manchester United are interested in the midfielder. However, the website also claim that AC Milan, Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen are interested in landing the anchorman.

The report states that Benfica are open to a loan-to-buy deal – something which they have agreed with Tottenham for Gedson Fernandes. CalcioMercato claim Luis is worth between £27million and £36million.

Leeds supporters have reacted to the news that the club are reportedly in the race to sign Luis this summer, and many believe he could be a good signing for the Yorkshire club – but some fear it could be to replace Kalvin Phillips.
