Leeds fans react as Tim Sherwood completes full u-turn on burnout

Tim Sherwood came under plenty of criticism from Leeds United supporters earlier this season when he suggested the Whites had “blown a gasket”, moments before the Whites smashed Newcastle 5-2. Now, he has done a u-turn.

Leeds suffered a 2-1 home defeat to West Ham back in December and after that game, ahead of the win over Newcastle – Sherwood told Amazon Prime that Leeds were struggling for fitness, and looked tired at Elland Road.

“Dare I say it, these look like they’ve blown a gasket already. They looked tired against West Ham. They’re supposed to be the fittest team in the League,” Sherwood said back in December, during Amazon Prime’s coverage.

Fast forward four months, and Leeds remain in 11th place having beaten Fulham away from home and drawing 0-0 with Chelsea in their last two games. With nine games to play, they have kept well above a relegation dog fight.

Leeds have been excellent all season, becoming the second team of many. Scoring and conceding plenty of goals, they have delighted their own fans by surpassing expectation – when many stated they would be happy to finish 17th.

Speaking to Optus Sport, Sherwood performed a u-turn: “I thought they were supposed to be running out of gas at this point in the season – they look like they’re getting stronger. Fantastic performance, love Bielsa, love Leeds.”

Instead of showing signs of burnout, Leeds remain miles ahead of any other Premier League side when it comes to sprints – clocking up 4800, 700 ahead of the next highest, and well above the average of just 3600.

Sherwood’s change of opinion has prompted reaction from Leeds supporters on Twitter, revelling in the fact the former Tottenham and Villa manager had been proved by wrong by Leeds.
