Marcelo Bielsa watched on as Leeds United’s Under-23 side cruised past Watford with an enormous 6-0 win at Elland Road on Monday night – and Leeds fans have been particularly impressed with Stuart McKinstry’s first start for the second string.
Leeds named a side that included plenty of first-team experience, including the likes of returning duo Luke Ayling and Tyler Roberts – who both got on the score sheet – and Eddie Nketiah, who notched a brace.
Barry Douglas, Gaetano Berardi, Matuesz Bogusz and Jack Clarke also played, while Pascal Struijk and Robbie Gotts added the two other goals for Leeds. But it was a special night for McKinstry, at just 16 years of age.
Signed from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in the summer, Scotland Under-17 international McKinstry started for the first time and certainly looked as though to be a big prospect for the future – looking right at home despite his tender age.

Both Roberts and Nketiah scored from the penalty spot but it was McKinstry that won those spot-kicks. His ability on the ball was a constant thorn in Watford’s defence, and certainly his vision was on full show.
Leeds fans responded to his Tweet by heaping huge praise on the talented youngster, who is already playing far beyond his expectations at 16 years old in the reserves. Many are excited by his first start, and what is in store in years to come for McKinstry.
