Leeds fans react as stats suggest Luke Ayling outperforming Rodrigo De Paul

Rodrigo De Paul is a name that makes Leeds fans feel excitement and despair at the same time. The Udinese and Argentina star was heavily linked with the Whites in the summer, even confirming his intention to join on Twitter.

The 26-year-old midfielder has since gone on to shine for Udinese this season, attracting interest from Liverpool, Inter Milan and Juventus according to multiple different reports. He has captained Udinese 11 times this season.

Leeds came close, but could never agree a fee with Udinese and eventually a deal died. Now, having impressed in the early part of the season, the chances of Leeds landing him are unlikely – almost zero, as his price will have risen.

If it was De Paul’s dribbling that interested Leeds, they should not be concerned. Stats show Ayling is outperforming De Paul, Lionel Messi and the rest of Europe’s top five leagues when it comes to distances covered in possession.

It is quite astounding how a player signed from Bristol City for less than £1million has dribbled the ball further than the likes of De Paul and Messi. Not only is he above those two players, but he is first in Europe’s top five leagues.

Credit where it is due, Ayling will have even surpassed his own expectations but it is also down to Bielsa’s way of playing. Leeds fans reacted to the incredible stat, heaping praise on their flying right-back.
