Chris Wilder’s comments ahead of Sheffield United’s clash against Leeds United on Saturday has prompted plenty of reaction – with some Leeds fans applauding Wilder, while others have suggested he is playing mind games.
Following the midweek Championship games, Saturday’s Yorkshire derby if finely poised. Leeds, Norwich and the Blades all picked up three points, extending the gap between themselves and fourth-placed West Brom.
Norwich are in first on 75 after beating Hull City 3-2, while Leeds sit in second on 73 following their 3-0 win against Reading on Tuesday. Sheffield United produced an excellent display to beat Brentford 2-0 with 10 men.
A win for the Blades would see them go above Leeds by a point. But a win for Marcelo Bielsa’s side would see Leeds open up a gap of five points above Wilder’s side. Wilder commented on the Whites ahead of Saturday’s clash.
“We are up against arguably the best team in the division for the past eight months. Whether that can continue for another month is to be seen,” as quoted by Yorkshire Post’s chief football writer Richard Sutcliffe on Twitter.
It is very complimentary to describe Leeds as the best team in the league so far. But to ask whether they can keep it up, has left some Leeds fans wondering if he is trying to deploy some mind games.
Leeds fans reacted on Twitter with many differing on their opinion of Wilder’s motive behind the comments.
I actually like wilder and I want the blades to come up with us.i feel bad beating them on Saturday
