Salim Lamrani has responded to an article by the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth on Twitter by declaring that “Everyone loves” Gaetano Berardi – and Whites fans have responded to Marcelo Bielsa’s former translator on Twitter.
The 31-year-old has become somewhat of a back-up defender for Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road over the past two seasons, offering cover on both sides of the defence – but more crucially at centre-back this campaign.
Signed in the summer of 2014 by former owner and president Massimo Cellino, Berardi has become a fan favourite in the six years he has spent at Elland Road. In that time, he has now clocked up a whopping 150 outings.
His performances of late have earned praise. Starting and finishing two of Leeds’ last three league games, the one-time Switzerland defender has starred in defence against both Middlesbrough and Huddersfield on Saturday.
Smyth’s Yorkshire Evening Post piece discusses how Berardi, who is now close to the final three months of his current contract at Leeds, has tamed his discipline problems and could be in line for a new deal – something which Lamrani agrees with.

Leeds fans reacted to Lamrani’s Tweet, which echoed Smyth’s piece – claiming everyone loves the former Sampdoria defender – and many supporters believe the defender earns a new deal, even if the club gain promotion.
