Leeds fans react as report claims Orta is jetting out to Italy to strike £26m deal
Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta has reportedly flown to Sardinia in a bid to thrash out a deal to sign Cagliari ace Nahitan Nandez. The Uruguay midfielder has been a target for Leeds over the past 12 months. Now, Orta is said to be in Italy, and Leeds fans have give their take.
Nandez, 25, was excellent for Cagliari in their fight against relegation last season. The 41-time Uruguay international successfuly steered his side away from the drop, and then impressed on a personal level at Copa America. Uruguay only managed to reach the quarter-finals, though.
Now, Nandez is enjoying some down time but with Copa America over – a move can go ahead. Centro Trentuno claim that Orta and some other Leeds emissaries have flown to Sardinia to strike a deal. The report says an announcement on negotiations could be come in the ‘next few hours’.
What are Leeds fans saying about Nandez, with Orta on his travels?
Nandez has a release clause in his contract worth £31million, but a recent report from La Nuova Sardegna says he is ‘destined’ to join Leeds. The Yorkshire club want to pay £26million, a near club-record fee having bought Rodrigo for £1million more last season.
Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to reports that the Whites want to sign Nandez in the coming weeks, and that Orta has flown to Italy. Many believe Nandez would be a brilliant signing for Leeds – who are also looking for a goalkeeper after Kiko Casilla departed. Junior Firpo is through the door.
