Leeds fans react as Premier League fixture list announced, Manchester United away first up
Leeds United have been handed a massive start to their 2021-22 Premier League campaign, as they embark on a second successive season in the top tier. Marcelo Bielsa’s men begin next season with a huge trip to rivals Manchester United on August 14. Leeds fans have responded on Twitter to the confirmed fixture list.
Leeds defied pre-season expectations last season with a brilliant ninth-placed finish. Many had tipped Bielsa’s intense style of play to fizzle out in the second half of the season – but they simply got better. Defensively, Leeds were much more stubborn to break down.
Now, Leeds will be keen to avoid the second-season dip. Sheffield United really struggled with it during 2020-21. With the novelty of Premier League football wearing off, the Blades went from ninth to relegation in 12 months. Wolves have also suffered from it, finishing some way down the table.
What are Leeds fans saying about the new fixture list?
Leeds start their new campaign with a hugely testing trip to bitter rivals Manchester United. Last season, the Whites lost 6-2 to United. This time around, they will be hoping for a much better result. December looks to be the trickiest time of the year – four back-to-back games against big sides.
Leeds face Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool away from home in the space of 15 days – only intersected by a home game against Arsenal. October is much kinder, with four games against Norwich, Wolves, Southampton and Watford. Leeds finish the season with a trip to Brentford.
Many Leeds fans delivered their instant verdicts on the fixture list.
