Marcelo Bielsa confirmed Leeds United will be without Pablo Hernandez on Saturday afternoon as they travel south to take on Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic – but Leeds fans remain upbeat, and are looking forward to seeing his replacement.

Hernandez, 34, has continued to remain pivotal to Bielsa’s side despite his age. Last season, he had a hand in 24 goals – scoring 12 and creating 12 – and this time around, the Spaniard has already scored two and laid on another two assists.

The former Spain international is currently being used on the right flank, providing Leeds with the creative force that sees them sit at the top of the Championship table and leading the way in possession stats and chances created.

However, the Whites will be without the dimuntive ex-Spain international, as they travel to the Capital to take on Charlton. The Addicks have begun the season in excellent form, following their promotion from League One under Bowyer.

Bielsa confirmed that Hernandez is out, as quoted by the YEP: “Pablo Hernandez is not going to play, he has a muscular problem. He felt that warming up in the last match and today it is not good. He is not well enough to play.

“It is Helder Costa who will play. Costa is prepared, he is ready, I can not say I am happy because people will think I am happy Pablo is not playing! I am happy that if it’s not Pablo then it’s Helder.”

Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Costa would replace Hernandez because of the winger’s injury, and many are still positive despite one of the side’s most important players being ruled out.
