Dwight Gayle will reportedly be allowed to leave Newcastle United in the January transfer window if interested parties are willing to part with a whopping £15million – and Leeds United fans have reacted on Twitter.
The Telegraph have claimed that the 29-year-old is not needed at Newcastle, with Steve Bruce’s side boasting both Joelinton and Andy Carroll as options up front. Japan international Yoshinori Muto is currently injured, but set to return soon.
This season, Gayle has been afforded just four Premier League appearances – which have all come from the bench. He has clocked up little more than the equivalent of one half of a football match, when the total of those appearances are combined.
West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest are believed to be interested in signing Gayle. The ex-Crystal Palace ace played on loan at West Brom last season, scoring an impressive 24 goals in 41 appearances – as the Baggies reached the play-offs.
Leeds have also been linked but the chances of the Whites spending such a figure on a striker when Marcelo Bielsa already boasts an in-form Patrick Bamford and exciting goal getter Eddie Nketiah on the bench – means buying Gayle is unlikely.
Leeds fans have reacted to the reported news that they can sign Gayle for £15million in the January window, and some supporters have urged owner Andrea Radrizzani to open his cheque book. Others believe it would be a waste of money, while the majority think it is too large a figure to see Leeds become active.
