Mike Dean has been appointed as referee for Leeds United’s clash against Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon at St. Andrews – and Leeds fans are worried.
Dean handed out the 100th red card of his professional career as an official on Tuesday night. Ashley Young was given a second yellow by Dean, which new Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted was right.
Dean, known for his theatrics as arguably one of the most renowned referees in English football, has taken charge of Leeds once before this season. He oversaw the 1-0 win over Reading, giving the Royals a penalty in the last minute.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell saved the effort, getting down low to deny Marc McNulty after Barry Douglas had tripped Josh Sims. Leeds will be hoping there is no repeat of that on Saturday.

Leeds travel to Birmingham which sees Marcelo Bielsa go up against former Whites boss Garry Monk for a second time. The Blues come into the game in dismal form, suffering a nine-point deduction after a breach of FFP rules.
They have lost their last five games, suffering defeats to West Bromwich Albion, Preston North End, Aston Villa, Hull City and even Millwall at home. Their last home win came against Nottingham Forest on February 2.
Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Dean would be the man in the middle on Saturday, and fans are both worried and angry that he has been installed as the official for the Championship outing.
