Leeds fans react as Matt Smith scores hat-trick against Nottingham Forest

Matt Smith stunned Nottingham Forest as he scored a sensational hat-trick for Millwall on Friday night as Gary Rowett’s side surprised many with a 3-0 win at The City Ground – and Leeds fans have reacted to their former striker’s goals.

Forest went into the game knowing a win would take them to within five points of Leeds, and level on points with third-placed Fulham. Certainly, Sabri Lamouchi’s side were favourites to pick up all three points.

However, Rowett has revolutionised Millwall since taking over at The Den. His arrival has seen Millwall climb to seventh in the Championship table, and are now just two points behind sixth-placed Preston – thanks to Smith’s hat-trick.

Target man Smith, 30, scored 14 goals and laid on seven assists during his time at Leeds United – where he managed 48 appearances. Almost six years after leaving Leeds in 2014, Smith has handed Leeds a helping hand.

His first goal saw him sensationally head home a cross from Murray Wallace. Jayson Molumby’s shot hit Smith for his second, before he completed a 13-minute hat-trick with a header from Shane Ferguson’s corner.

The win not only gave Leeds a bit of breathing space, but it also saw plenty of Leeds fans react on Twitter to his goals. The majority declared their love for the former striker.
