Leeds announced on Tuesday that goalkeeping coach Marcos Abad has penned a new deal until June 2025 – and Leeds fans have responded.
Abad, 36, joined the club in the summer of 2017 – following Victor Orta’s arrival from Middlesbrough. Abad, too, joined from the Teesside club.
Since then, he has been credited with the rise of Illan Meslier. The young Frenchman joined initially on loan from Lorient in 2019.
Breaking into the Leeds side in 2020, he starred on debut and during the latter stages in which the Whites gained promotion to the Premier League.
Since then, Meslier has become one of the best, footballing goalkeepers in the top tier – signing a five-year deal himself. He paid tribute to Abad.

What are Leeds fans saying, as Abad signs new contract at Elland Road?
It is another staple of the coaching staff under Marcelo Bielsa that has pledged his future to the club. But it is not a hint that Bielsa is staying.
The ex-Elche coach joined before Bielsa’s arrival – and is not a part of the Argentine’s core. Bielsa is also out of contract next summer.
Unlike Bielsa, Abad is clearly willing to sign a contract beyond the end of the current season. But nevertheless, it is good news for Leeds.
Simply looking at his development of Meslier over the last two years, Abad is worth the money Leeds pay him. Meslier’s value is sky-rocketing.
Leeds fans took to Twitter to praise the club’s decision to tie Meslier down until the summer of 2025. One fan labelled it as “great news”.
