Marco Silvestri kept a clean sheet between the sticks as Italian side Hellas Verona beat Cittadella 3-0 to earn promotion to Serie A in the Serie B play-off final β and Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter.
The 28-year-old left Leeds in the summer of 2017 to join Verona, but managed just four appearances for his new club during 2017-18 as they were relegated. This season, he has proved far more important.
He played 41 times in all competitions for Verona, helping to keep eight clean sheets and concede just 50 goals. His most important clean sheet of all came on Sunday evening, as Verona beat Cittadella 3-0.
It sees Silvestri and Verona gain promotion to Serie A, after finishing fifth in the second tier and qualifying for the play-offs. The former Cagliari and Chievo star posted on Twitter.
Of all the clubs Silvestri has played for throughout his career, he has turned out most times for Leeds. During his three-year spell at Elland Road, Silvestri managed 98 appearances in all competitions.
But under Garry Monk, he was edged towards the exit door after the signing of Rob Green made him a back-up goalkeeper. He clocked up 98 appearances, conceding 123 goals and keeping 23 clean sheets.
Leeds fans reacted to Silvestriβs Tweet, with some discussing how they have always admired Silvestri. Some even claimed they would prefer him to Kiko Casilla, and wished he never left.
