Leeds fans react as Marcelo Bielsa provides update on Gjanni Alioski amid reports

Marcelo Bielsa has commented on Gjanni Alioski’s future amid reports that Galatasaray are interested in the Leeds United defender and had ‘agreed’ a pre-contract deal for the Macedonian – and Leeds fans have responded.

Alioski, 28, has entered the final six months of his Leeds contract. It was believed that the North Macedonia international, who will play at Euro 2021 in the summer, was in talks before Christmas in regards to penning a new deal at Elland Road.

Since then, nothing has materialised. Indeed, Turkish newspaper Fotomac claim that Alioski had ‘agreed’ a deal to join one of the Yorkshire club’s biggest rivals in Galatasaray – a rivalry that stems from two Leeds fans being stabbed by Gala fans in 2000.

Speaking in his pre-Leicester City press conference, Bielsa gave an update on Alioski’s situation and stated that the left-back needs to decide if he wants to stay at Leeds. If he chooses Leeds, then Leeds will choose Alioski and agree a new deal.

“I’m only one opinion in regards to if Alioski stays or not. The most important thing is that he wants to stay. I think when it comes to a player staying at a club the most important thing is if the player wants to stay,” Bielsa said, as pre Leeds Live.

“The player should chose the club and after the club will decide if they want him. But the main condition, the most important thing is the player wanting to stay. I think if Alioski chooses Leeds, Leeds will choose Alioski.”

Despite not starting earlier this season, Alioski has made the left-back slot his own – maybe thanks to some injuries that have seen Stuart Dallas play either at right-back or in the middle of the park. But he has retained that position in the side.

Leeds supporters responded to the news that Bielsa has commented on Alioski’s current contract situation, and have urged the former FC Lugano man to put pen to paper on a new deal at Elland Road.
