Leeds fans react as Marcelo Bielsa provides another update on Adam Forshaw

Marcelo Bielsa has given a slightly optimistic verdict on Adam Forshaw’s injury as he surpasses 18 months since he last featured for Leeds United – and Whites fans have responded to the Argentine manager’s comments, quoted by Leeds Live.

Forshaw, 29, joined Leeds in January 2018 from Middlesbrough but the midfielder has managed just 52 appearances for Leeds in over three years at Elland Road. He is yet to feature for the Whites since injuring his hip in September 2019.

More than a year and a half on, there had been some suggestions that he could feature before the end of the season. Forshaw himself told the My Conversations With The Pope podcast that he is hopeful of playing for Leeds between now and May.

Bielsa was asked about Forshaw’s return, with Gaetano Berardi now back in action after suffering an ACL injury more than six months after Forshaw’s hip problem. Bielsa stated that while he has not return date, Forshaw is in a “positive moment”.

“I could not assure you,” Bielsa said, on Forshaw’s return date. “He’s been absent for a long time now. He’s in a positive moment in his recovery, but that moment has to be extended for a while longer without any setbacks.

“For this to allow him to return to competitive football, what is true is he works tirelessly and continuously. He makes the maximum effort to come back and play. What I can say is he is healthy and he has great quality.”

Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Forshaw is still without a return date, and many are of the opinion that the club now need to consider releasing the ex-Middlesbrough midfielder – though he has a contract at Leeds until the summer of 2022.
