Leeds United fans have reacted on Twitter to Marcelo Bielsa’s update on defender Diego Llorente, after the Argentina manager confirmed that he will be out between three and four weeks following his injury against Newcastle United.

Llorente, 27, has struggled for Leeds with injuries. Just a couple of weeks after signing, Llorente suffered a groin injury without making his Leeds debut – while on international duty with Spain. It kept him out until December.

He returned in the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, with Bielsa stating that he had brought him back somewhat early due to Robin Koch’s knee injury at Stamford Bridge. He finished the match, but suffered another muscle injury.

It kept him sidelined until this week. Having featured for the Under-23’s against Wolves – in which he scored the winner – Bielsa threw him into the starting line-up against Newcastle, but he suffered a hamstring issue. Bielsa gave an update.

“It’s a muscular injury and he’s going to be out of the team for three or four weeks,” Bielsa told Leeds Live. It means that against Leicester on Sunday, either Luke Ayling will partner Liam Cooper at centre-back – or Pascal Struijk will come back in again.

Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter to Bielsa’s update on the £22,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender – and fans gave a wind-ranging reaction. Some are stunned, some are frustrated by Llorente, others feel sympathy – while others remained optimistic.
