Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been quoted by Leeds Live as saying that he would understand if youngster Robbie Gotts chose to leave Elland Road – and Whites fans have reacted on Twitter to their manager’s comments.
Gotts, 20, has not made his senior debut for Leeds despite starring for the Under-23 side and Bielsa’s faith in youth. Since the Argentine arrived at Elland Road, he has handed out 12 senior debuts to youngsters who have come through the academy.
The versatile ace, who can play in central midfield, out wide or at right-back, has featured on the substitutes bench 13 times out of Leeds’ 21 league games this season – but he has failed to even get a substitute appearance when Leeds have been winning.
Asked about Gotts, Bielsa said: “If Gotts understands he doesn’t want to stay here, I would understand him. At the moment, I am not finding a fair situation to resolve this. In another moment I said to Robbie ‘I really hope you stay with us’.”
Gotts has a contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2022, but finds himself quite some way down the pecking order. Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich, Tyler Roberts, Adam Forshaw, Pablo Hernandez and even Alfie McCalmont are ahead of him.
The Whites take on Cardiff City on Saturday and Gotts is expected to warm the bench once again for Leeds, after featuring on the bench in the last two matches against Huddersfield Town and Hull City.
Leeds fans have reacted to Marcelo Bielsa’s comments on the future of the Thorp Arch academy product, and many are hoping that if he is to leave Elland Road – then it is only on loan.
On loan I presume?

Hope he doesn’t leave, maybe a loan for second half of the season?

Then he needs to go out on loan, he's too good a talent to just sell off.
