Marcelo Bielsa has been quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post as saying that Leeds United opted to sell youngster Clarke Oduor to Barnsley, as the winger had little chance of breaking into the senior side.
Oduor, 20, joined Championship and Yorkshire rivals Barnsley on deadline day on a permanent basis. He was one of three Leeds players to move to Oakwell, along with Aapo Halme and Mallik Wilks.
The versatile winger, who can also play full back and even out wide as part of a front three, impressed in Carlos Corberan’s side and did well during pre-season. He even featured during Leeds’ tour of Australia.
Oduor’s rise last season even showed as he was given a three-minute run out by Bielsa in the FA Cup loss to QPR, where Halme scored. Now, Bielsa explained why Leeds opted to sell Oduor – rather than let him develop.

“He’s a player who can play as a left-back, as a number eight or as a winger. At the same time in the same position he had in front of him Douglas, Alioski, Davis, Harrison, Costa and Clarke,” Bielsa said. “He wanted to take advantage of the opportunity that he had.”
Wilks has started both Championship matches for Barnsley, while Halme has remained an unused substitute in both games. Oduor is yet to appear on the bench, but he could do so on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup against Carlisle.
Leeds fans reacted to Bielsa’s comments about Oduor, and some believe that it was the wrong decision to let the versatile youngster leave Elland Road. Others understand the decision made by Oduor.
