Legia Warsaw manager Czesław Michniewicz has told SPORT that he would love to take Leeds United teenager Mateusz Bogusz back to his home country on a permanent basis – and Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter.

Bogusz, 19, is considered one of the most highly-rated teenage talents on the books at Elland Road having joined the club from Polish side Ruch Churzow in 2019. He has broke into the first team, playing three times at senior level.

But following promotion last season to the Premier League, Bogusz chose to leave the club on loan and joined Spanish second-tier outfit Logrones – but the 10-time Poland Under-21 international has struggled to stand out.

Clocking up 19 appearances for the Spanish club, he has only managed one goal and one assist during his time with the La Liga 2 side and now – his future at Leeds is in doubt this summer. Legia boss Michniewicz is keen to sign him.

“I like players  like Mateusz. He has a great technique, a sense for a combination game,” Michniewicz said. “He has had a tremendous amount of work with coach Marcelo Bielsa. I must admit that I would like him to be in Legia.

“It may not be a realistic transfer, because Bielsa did not want to agree to loan Mateusz to Spain. As of today, I would give a few percent chance of succeeding [to sign Bogusz], even though I would very much like him to come to Legia.”

Bogusz has plenty of competition ahead of him at Leeds, with Sam Greenwood now shining in the 23’s. Rodrigo, Tyler Roberts, Jamie Shackleton, Pablo Hernandez, Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas are also ahead of him.

But Leeds fans are keen to see him remain at the club given he is still very young and boasts huge potential. Many have suggested that he goes on loan again, but perhaps remains in England so Leeds can keep an eye on him.
