A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to respond to Lewis Bate after the midfielder suggested that he is ready for a big few weeks ahead at Elland Road.

Bate was one of several youngsters within the Whites’ squad who went off on international duty this month.

And the 18-year-old has now opened his account for England’s under-20s with a goal in their draw with Italy. He produced a smart finish with his left foot to equalise shortly after the Italians had taken the lead.

It will be a further boost to Bate’s confidence, with the former Chelsea man making a fantastic start to life with the Whites.

The teenager has already become a stalwart of the under-23 side. He has started every game for Mark Jackson’s men in Premier League 2.

And with Leeds lacking options in central midfield, there is a hope that he may soon be involved in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.

Intriguingly, Bate has sent out a tweet where he alluded to a big few weeks coming up with the Whites.

Now, that may be due to the fixtures the under-23s have ahead. They face Arsenal, Manchester United and his former club Chelsea before the end of November.

But some fans are hoping that it could be a sign that a first-team debut may be edging closer.
