With Neil Warnock watching on, Leeds United’s Under-23 side earned an excellent 4-2 away win over Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon – and Leeds fans have reacted to Joe Gelhardt’s half-time substitution.
Gelhardt, 18, scored a stunning brace before half-time during the 4-2 win as Leeds cruised to a 4-0 lead at the break. Nohan Kenneh and Max Dean also got their names on the score sheet for Mark Jackson’s side in the first 45.
However, Gelhardt was subbed off at half-time and there did not appear to be any reason why. It was the former Wigan starlet’s sixth and seventh goals of the season – the latter a stunning effort, curling in from 20 yards.
It comes with the senior Leeds side set to play host to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday night – with Marcelo Bielsa’s side looking to avenge the 4-1 defeat they suffered to Roy Hodgson’s side at Selhurst Park.
Gelhardt is yet to appear in and around the first team. Sam Greenwood, Olly Casey, Leif Davis and Jack Jenkins have all been given game time after shining for the reserves, but Gelhardt is yet to be afforded that chance.
Leeds supporters have reacted on Twitter to his removal at half-time and many think it could be because he might be part of the Whites side to take on Palace come Monday evening.
Hope Gelhardt has come off at half time because he is on the bench tomorrow #lufc
