Leeds United have announced on Twitter that attacker Jay-Roy Grot will leave the club for a second time on loan this summer, joining Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem – and Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter.
Grot, 21, joined Leeds in the summer of 2017 from NEC Nijmegen for a fee of £1.5million. He managed 22 appearances for the Whites, but only scored on one occasion.
The Dutch Under-21 international was loaned to VVV-Venlo last season and certainly impressed. He played 34 times for the Eredivisie side, and scored six goals as well as laying on three assists for Venlo.
But Leeds have opted against giving him a run in the first team for 2019-20, instead loaning him back to his home country – this time in the form of the slightly better Vitesse Arnhem.
He was well down the pecking order, with Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford preferred up front while the reportedly imminent signing of Jack Harrison and potential purchase of Helder Costa would seen him rot in the reserves.
But Leeds fans are not happy on Twitter after hearing of the news that Grot had left the club for another year, moving to Vitesse. Some believe he deserved a chance, while some a loan in England would have been better.
