Leeds fans react as James Tavernier posts on Instagram, after facetiming Lucas Radebe

James Tavernier has posted on Instagram after receiving a FaceTime call from one of his boyhood heroes in Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe, after captaining Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title – and Leeds fans have reacted on Twitter.

Rangers were confirmed as champions on Sunday afternoon without even playing. Celtic needed to beat Dundee United to delay Rangers from winning the title for at least another week, but they drew 0-0 at Tannadice – confirming Rangers as champions.

Tavernier, 29, has been incredible for Rangers. This season, he has had a hand in 32 goals in 41 league and cup from right-back – scoring 17 and creating 15 more. He has entered the last 18 months of his contract at Ibrox, and turns 30 in July.

The Bradford-born defender was one of many Rangers players to celebrate on Sunday, with crowds around Ibrox. But Tavernier also celebrated with Leeds legend Radebe – having come through the ranks at Leeds and being a boyhood fan (Sun).

Tavernier spent seven years in the Leeds academy between 2001 and 2008 – before moving to Newcastle aged 16. He has made his career in Scotland, but despite his stats and European form, he has not earned international recognition.

Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to Tavernier’s post, in which he stated that meeting Radebe was a part of one of the “best days of his life” – and that he ended the post with MOT, which stands for marching on together. Some think he would be a good signing.
