Leeds fans react as Gjanni Alioski struggles in draw against Preston

Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to equalise for Leeds United on Tuesday night after another frustrating night for Marcelo Bielsa’s side at Preston North End – and Leeds fans are unimpressed with Gjanni Alioski’s performance from left-back.

Patrick Bamford, Gjanni Alioski and Jack Harrison missed excellent chances to put Leeds ahead before Sean Maguire broke in the second half, squaring to Tom Barkhuizen who finished past Kiko Casilla to give Preston the lead.

It was a familiar story for Leeds, who had dominated again but failed to find the back of the net – despite facing a side that are yet to lose at home this season. Finally, Leeds made the breakthrough, after Nketiah replaced Patrick Bamford.

A poor Kalvin Phillips free-kick found its way to Jack Harrison, who floated in a pin-point cross to find Nketiah. The Arsenal loanee looped a header over Declan Rudd and save a point in the 87th minute.

The debate after the match will be whether Marcelo Bielsa finally starts Nketiah over Bamford, but Macedonia international Alioski struggled to make much of an impact throughout the clash from the left side of the defence.

Tiredness could be a factor for Alioski, who played 180 minutes for his country during the international break before returning to play the entire match against Birmingham on Saturday – and another 90 on Tuesday night.

Alioski has now clocked up four full matches in 12 days – including trips to Slovenia and Poland. Fatigue may be the issue, but Leeds fans were not as forgiving on Twitter, criticising Alioski in what was his 105th appearance since his £2m move (YEP).
