Turkish outlet Milliyet have reported that Leeds United defender Gjanni Alioski has been handed the chance to sign a new contract at Elland Road – but the North Macedonia ace has decided to reject that offer, and looks set to depart in the summer.
Alioski, 29, is out of contract this summer – four years after initially moving to Elland Road from Swiss side FC Lugano. He has since clocked up a whopping 160 appearances for the Whites, being turned into a left-back under Marcelo Bielsa.
He has chipped in with three goals during his 27 outings this season, netting a brilliant effort in the 5-0 demolition of West Brom and against Newcastle in the 5-2 home win. He also scored in the Carabao Cup penalty-shootout defeat to Hull City.
Alioski has been linked with Galatasaray – bitter rivals among Leeds fans after the death of two supporters back in 2000. Whether he ends up with the SuperLig side remains to be seen, but Milliyet state that he has rejected a new deal at Leeds.
Leeds fans reacted to the news that Alioski has rejected the chance to extend his stay in Yorkshire beyond the current summer, and many believe that while he is good man to have in the dressing room – they believe it is time for him to look for pastures new.
